After a competitive Swinburne community competition (with notable fanfare) last year, we’re pleased to advise our new mascot is almost ready to come to life. Before they arrive, we're handing the final decision over to you: the name.
Swinburne club leaders recently met to shortlist three names nominated by students to be put forward for a vote. And before you ask, boaty-mcboatface didn’t make the cut.

Who could submit a name nomination?
All current Swinburne students and affiliated organisations registered with Swinburne were eligible to submit nominations between 9 and 30 March 2026.
Who gets to vote?
Enrolled Swinburne students across Hawthorn, Wantirna and Croydon (as well as our international partner campuses) are invited to participate in this initiative.
How were the shortlisted names chosen?
All nominations were assessed against the Mascot Naming Guidelines, which required names to reflect Swinburne's identity and values, be easy to say, spell and chant, and not already be used by another major Australian university or sports team. The Clubs Consultative Committee, comprised of Club leaders, then shortlisted three names to be put forward for a vote.
Why is my voting link coming from BigPulse?
The SSA uses BigPulse to run secure, independent ballots. Your personal voting link will arrive in a separate email sent directly from BigPulse. If you don't receive it, check your junk folder first, then contact us.
Can I change my vote after submitting?
No — once your vote is submitted, it is final. This ensures the integrity of the ballot.
Who makes the final decision?
You do. The name with the highest number of student votes will be adopted as the official mascot name, facilitated by the SSA with the support of Swinburne University of Technology.
When will the name be announced?
We're looking to announce the name alongside its physical form, so stay tuned for future updates.
