Swinburne Student Council (SSC)

Your voice.
Your campus.
Your community.

The SSC is all about student representation within SSA. It is made up of elected students who work on the things that matter most to you — from welfare and inclusion to clubs, culture, and community. They lead SSA campaigns, run events, and make sure all students (no matter your background or campus) feel seen, supported, and heard.

Key roles

  • President – leads the SSA Board and an executive on SSC

Term: All SSC representatives serve a 12-month term (1st of Nov - 31st Oct). Elections happen in Semester 2.

Swinburne Student Council

Vasu Aggarwal

Welfare Lead

Vasu Aggarwal is a Bachelor of Business student dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing and sense of belonging within the Swinburne community. With experience as a former Operations Manager at the Swinburne Student Union, Vasu has worked to strengthen connections among students and raise the standard of student life through practical, student-led initiatives. Passionate about inclusivity and accessibility, Vasu aims to make student facilities more affordable and ensure essential campus amenities are freely available to everyone. His goal as Welfare Lead is to foster a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where all students feel valued and heard. Drawing from diverse professional experience across sales, IT, administration, and operations, Vasu brings adaptability, teamwork, and strong organisational skills to the role. Outside of his leadership pursuits, he enjoys cooking, horse riding, skiing, and travelling, activities that reflect his energy, curiosity, and drive to connect with people from all walks of life.

Charles John Wheeler

Activities Representative

Charles (Charlie) is an enthusiastic student leader passionate about building community and connection at Swinburne University. With prior experience in multiple leadership roles and student councils, Charlie has developed strong collaboration and event coordination skills that help turn ideas into engaging, inclusive experiences for all students. As Activities Representative, Charlie aims to strengthen the community by organising vibrant social events that bring students together. Creating spaces where new and continuing students alike can connect, belong, and thrive. His vision is to ensure that no student feels left out or isolated, and that campus life remains dynamic, inclusive, and full of opportunities to make lasting friendships.

Thi Khanh Huyen Pham (Amelia)

Cultural & Faith Representative

Huyen Pham (Amelia) is a Bachelor of Design (UX Interaction Design) student at Swinburne University of Technology with a deep passion for creativity, connection, and community. As Head of Design for the Vietnamese International Students at Swinburne (VISS), she has played a key role in bringing visual ideas to life, leading campaigns, designing vibrant media, and helping shape a more inclusive and expressive student culture. Her leadership within VISS and dedication to design excellence have inspired collaboration and a sense of belonging across the club. Known for her creative flair, attention to detail, and infectious enthusiasm, Huyen believes in using design not only as a tool for storytelling but also as a bridge between people of different backgrounds. As the Cultural and Faith Representative, Amelia aims to celebrate the diversity of cultures, beliefs, and perspectives that make Swinburne unique. She is committed to fostering a welcoming and respectful environment where every student feels seen, supported, and valued, ensuring that creativity and culture continue to connect the Swinburne community.

Keerthana Prakash (Keethy)

International Representative

Keerthana (Keerthy) is a PhD student at Swinburne University of Technology whose passion lies in learning, connecting with people, and helping students find a true sense of belonging. With a strong academic foundation in Finance and Business Analytics, her research interests explore the intersection of behavioural finance, analytics, and sustainable innovation—particularly how emerging technologies like AI can shape the future of responsible investing. Beyond her studies, Keerthy is a creative spirit who finds balance and joy in art, painting, brush-pen calligraphy, and dot mandala design. She believes that creativity and connection go hand in hand in building meaningful communities. As International Representative, Keerthy aims to make Swinburne’s international community more vibrant, inclusive, and engaging by expanding opportunities for cultural exchange, improving access to student resources, and amplifying student voices. Her goal is to ensure that every international student feels welcomed, supported, and empowered to thrive both academically and personally.

Thanh Tran (Tiffany)

Queer Representative

Thanh (Tiffany) Tran is a Bachelor of Motion Design student who believes in the power of creativity, diversity, and individuality, both in design and in life. Her studies have deepened her appreciation for self-expression and the unique perspectives each person brings to the Swinburne community. As a proud ally and advocate for the Queer community, Tiffany is dedicated to creating safe, inclusive, and celebratory spaces where every student can express themselves freely and confidently. Through SSA events such as Pride celebrations, workshops, and casual meetups, she aims to foster connection, understanding, and empowerment across the student body. Tiffany’s vision is simple but powerful: a campus where every student feels supported, respected, and proud of who they are.

Tamjid Ahmed

Education Lead

Tamjid is passionate about making the learning experience at Swinburne more supportive, accessible, and inclusive for all students. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Analytics, he combines his analytical expertise and creativity to turn data into meaningful insights to guide informed decision-making and improvement. With experience in volunteering, mentoring, and student leadership, Tamjid has built strong communication and problem-solving skills that help him understand and act on student needs. As Secretary of the Swinburne Bangladeshi Association and former Treasurer of the Foundation School Debate Club, he has led diverse teams and organised events that foster connection and community. From organising Swinburne’s largest Bengali New Year celebration to supporting peers through the Buddy Program and SSA initiatives, Tamjid has consistently championed collaboration and inclusion. As Education Lead, he aims to improve access to study resources, strengthen exam support, and ensure every student feels heard, confident, and empowered to succeed.”

Allqa Ashna Ali

Womens' Representative

As a Biomedical Engineering student and Student Tutor at Swinburne University of Technology, Allqa Ashna is passionate about empowering women in STEM and fostering an inclusive, supportive campus culture. Through her leadership roles in the Swinburne Engineering Student Society, Heart Hackathon, and MedHack, she has developed strong skills in event management, outreach, and collaborative problem-solving. As Women’s Representative, she aims to transform the Women’s Room into a dynamic hub for empowerment, mentorship, and career growth. Fluent in multiple languages and skilled in communication, she strives to ensure every woman at Swinburne feels heard, supported, and inspired to thrive. Her experience working with WiSTEM and leading student initiatives has deepened her commitment to gender equity, mental health advocacy, and professional development for women in engineering. She has also gained valuable industry insight as a Regulatory and Engineering Intern at Universal Biosensors, where she worked within cross-functional teams to ensure compliance and innovation.

Humaira Mostafa

Residential Communities Representative

Having lived at William Street Residence since beginning their Swinburne journey in 2023, Humaira has experienced firsthand the impact that a vibrant and welcoming residential community can have on student life. These years of shared experiences, friendships, late-night study sessions, and cultural events have inspired Humaira to help strengthen the sense of belonging among residents. As President of the Swinburne Bangladeshi Association (SBA) and former President of the Swinburne Poetry Club, [Name] has led diverse teams in creating inclusive, engaging spaces that bring students together. Their work as Media Lead for SwinMUN and involvement with multiple campus initiatives have further honed their leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. In the role of Residential Communities Representative, she aims to foster open communication, organise inclusive social and cultural events, and ensure that residents receive the academic and social support they need. By collaborating with SSA and campus clubs, Humaira hopes to bridge the gap between residences and the wider student body, building a more connected, supportive, and diverse residential experience at Swinburne.

Hammad Shafique

Accessibility Representative

With a passion for creating an inclusive and supportive campus, Hammad is dedicated to ensuring that every student can fully participate in university life. Currently pursuing a Master of Engineering (by Research) at Swinburne University of Technology, specialising in Structural Engineering (Digital Twins), he brings both technical expertise and strong leadership experience to the role. Holding a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and professional experience as a civil and design engineer, Hammad has delivered high-quality engineering solutions across a range of projects, including freelance design work for diverse clients. This background has strengthened their problem-solving, collaboration, and project management skills, qualities he now applies to student advocacy and accessibility initiatives. As former Director of the University Art and Culture Society (2021–2022) and Organising Head of the Institution of Civil Engineers (2019–2022), Hammad led inclusive events that brought students together. More recently, through volunteering at Swinburne’s Open Day and Orientation (2025), they helped new students feel welcomed and supported. In the role of Accessibility Representative, Hammad aims to advocate for better accessibility, raise awareness, and ensure that every student’s voice is heard and valued within the Swinburne community.

Scarlet Lee

Swinburne Online Representative

Scarlett understands firsthand the challenges of studying remotely. The sense of distance, disconnection, and uncertainty that can come with online learning. Having started her Swinburne journey entirely online, without ever setting foot on campus or meeting peers in person, she quickly recognised the importance of representation and connection for online students. Motivated by that experience, Scarlett is passionate about ensuring that the voices, perspectives, and needs of online students are heard and valued just as much as those on campus. As Online Representative, she aims to bridge the gap between online and in-person communities by improving communication, creating inclusive digital spaces, and fostering a stronger sense of belonging. Scarlett believes that while online study may be independent, it should never be isolating, and she’s committed to helping every Swinburne student feel connected, supported, and part of a vibrant learning community.
